early morning
a huge main door
typical building in astoria
(astoria-new york- green
line of the subway)
apartment like many others
a couple
a bed
a good morning under their
breath
no niceties
-not at all a good day-
relax folks
it’s not my awakening but
the first scene of
scratch
the short film shot in the
big apple
written and interpreted by
my friend lydia
i was saying:
the two wake up in their bed
her: beautiful black bags
under her eyes
him: white grey-haired
pretty boring
he kisses her and would like
to try and “move” things
make love could be a good
idea..
but she refuses him
there’s something she needs
to tell
he has difficulties to let
her talk
it seems like he doesn’t
want to know anything
she finally confesses her
cheating
he goes crazy and wants her
out of his house
(is that his house?)
(is that his house?)
but a few seconds later
moved by a “you’re a loser”
he feels like confessing
something too
two opposite styles and
personalities are now fighting:
she’s confessing about her
cheating because she (says she) loves him
he holds back about (his)
cheating because he (says he) loves her
doubt creeps through the
fields of my tired mind:
are we really sure the so
gossiped
“love”
has got something to do with
these two here?
I’m confused
talk
for them
is not a chance to
understand each other
to hold hands during the
arduous trip against the wind
talk
for them
is not a possibility to find
a solution to problems
or to sew up the scratch
talk
on the opposite
is quickly leading them to
sink
the spare dialogue
between them
mostly happens in english
only for few moments
when they insult each
other..
the two brilliant actors
quickly move to italian
making everything much more
realistic
in fact here we are
a scene in the life of a
relationship
their living together
the dialogue between two
foreigners (and two strangers)
two europeans in new york
once in a while they speak
in the language they feel more comfortable with
(striking!)
a shot of a couple intimacy
a couple going through a
difficult period or maybe already at the end
an everyday affair
it could be ours or
anybody’s one
harsh and painful
harsh as it’s harsh to say
it’s over
painful as it’s painful to
remain awake and realize the feeling is fading away while the other is sleeping
next to you
a scratch coming from a
confession
the confession make things
get so much shaky
that they will soon crash
i was asked to write
something on this short movie
well
my dear friend
I’ll tell you mine:
i used to think (and love to
relish the comforting thought that)
most beautiful women
were stupid or talentless
at this point I’m forced to
change my theory
damn
the leading actress (and
producer of the short movie)
is TER-RI-FIC!!!
she wins the two S
a Supergood actress
and
Sexy
we met eight years ago
she answered to my ad on a
newspaper saying:
looking for a background
vocalist black music influences and dancing skills
a five foot eight tall
french supercool chocolate brown skin gal
lydia shows up to my place
cat eyes
a curvy body envy of naomi
campbell
typical pissed off
afroamerican women’s sharp retort
a powerful and fascinating
laugh
a rolling “R”
in spite of her criminal
beauty
we became friends
our artistic collaboration
was a success
I’d just like to place in
the archives
that on our second rehearsal
we found ourselves in front
of my old bedroom’s mirror
practicing on an angie
stone’s tune (brotha)
creating top-level
choreographies
some afro wigs on (white for
her black for me)
the concert was memorable
and epoch-making
I sang as I was possessed
she danced as a fury
pure pleasure and soul
later the half french-half
caraibic girl fell in love with a nice guy from puglia (south italy)
and they moved together to
the city that never sleeps
looking at the film
I couldn’t avoid asking
myself:
after a bunch of scratches
is it still possible to
disinfect put a band-aid on and wait for the skin to heal up
then throw yourself into a
new potential “scratcher”
or
after all those scratches
your skin will be so much
sensitive that you’ll find yourself running from any contact
even if it was a simple
caress?
for the answer to this doubt
of mine
I’m going to be waiting for…
Scratch 2!!
